She/Her/Ella
Bhairavi Asher is a Directing Attorney on the Children’s Representation Project at ImmDef. Bhairavi is a proud immigrant, originally from India. Her passion and commitment to the immigrant community stems from her personal experience as a young adult seeing her grandmother’s aspirations to visit the U.S. to see the life her daughter had made be denied by unfair immigration policies. Bhairavi has always had a passion to work with and be surrounded by children and takes pride in saying she played an active role in raising her younger cousins.
Prior to joining ImmDef in 2018, Bhairavi spent 2 years in Tanzania teaching English to rural primary school students, and as a legal advocate for refugees from the Horn of Africa seeking protection in Tanzania. She spent 1 year working at the Children’s Law Center, where she represented abused and neglected children and youth in the Los Angeles County dependency system. For 10 years, Bhairavi put together an annual Holiday Care Package drive to provide essential care items to vulnerable populations living in Downtown L.A.’s Skid Row and abroad in India.
She graduated with a B.A. in Criminology, Law & Society and Psychology & Social Behavior from the University of California, Irvine, and obtained her J.D. from the University of La Verne College of Law.
