ImmDef Welcomes Implementation of Biden-Harris Plan to Keep Families Together While Renewing Call to Restore Asylum

LOS ANGELES, CA – Today, the Biden-Harris administration began accepting applications under the “Keeping Families Together” program, which provides “parole in place” for some undocumented spouses and stepchildren of U.S. citizens who have been present in the United States for at least a decade. This program allows families to safely remain in the United States while they seek lawful permanent resident (LPR) status, without the risk of family separation. Interested families can access more information here.

“Today marks a monumental step toward protecting mixed-status families who have lived with the fear of deportation for far too long. Keeping families together is a smart and humane strategy that benefits our communities and strengthens our economy. We extend our deepest gratitude to the advocates and organizations that fought to make this a reality and to the administration for listening to them. We take this opportunity to remind the Biden-Harris administration that all families deserve to be reunited and free from the threat of deportation, including those who are being denied meaningful access to asylum at the southern border in violation of domestic and international law. We also call on the Biden-Harris administration to provide permanent solutions for the millions of immigrant families in the United States who will not be eligible for relief under this policy,” said Lindsay Toczylowski, Executive Director and Co-Founder of Immigrant Defenders Law Center
