LOS ANGELES LAUNCHES RAPID RESPONSE NETWORK AND HOTLINE TO RESPOND TO ICE ENFORCEMENT ACTIONS

The Los Angeles Rapid Response Network (LARRN) is one of several regional, volunteer-based efforts, set up to respond, inform, protect, and document ICE enforcement operations.

Los Angeles, CA –The Coalition for Humane Immigrant Rights (CHIRLA), in collaboration with several immigrant rights, justice and constitutional law groups, labor, faith, and other community groups, announced the Los Angeles Rapid Response Network (formerly the Raids Rapid Response Network of Los Angeles) – LARRN – is now set up and ready to inform and protect the community and respond to and document ICE enforcement activity reports in the Greater Los Angeles region.

The LARRN has set up the national Immigrant Assistance Hotline – (888) 624-4752 – where people can report immigration enforcement operations as well as request referrals for local, regional, or national legal immigration and other support services. The hotline is staffed daily and receives voicemail messages.   Once a report of an ICE enforcement action has been received, the LARRN will activate local cells made up of volunteers and staff members who will go out in the community to investigate and verify the report’s accuracy.  Each cell is made up of attorneys, legal observers, educators, organizers, and documentarians trained to verify the report and mobilize support efforts available to individuals, families, or workers impacted by the ICE operation.

“ICE has not waited a single moment to begin separating hundreds of families and causing fear and concern in various communities throughout the US.  In Greater Los Angeles, we are coming together through the LARRN to ensure Angelenos know there are resources available to them to report ICE operations, get referrals, and access vital services available to them.  The LARRN’s message to the community is that they are not alone and together we will stand strong against the Trump Administration’s cruel and unjust policies targeting working immigrant families in the U.S.,” said Pedro Trujillo, Organizing Director at the Coalition for Humane Immigrant Rights (CHIRLA).

“Labor stands united with the LARRN to protect the rights of our brothers and sisters who word hard to make their dreams come true and keep our economy strong.  We are prepared to respond and challenge reports of ICE enforcement actions and will engage our extensive networks to verify and offer community members support and assistance in their time of need,” said Martin Manteca, Organizing Director at SEIU Local 721.

“Los Angeles would not be what it is without our immigrant community members. We stand united with all Angelenos facing an anti-immigrant administration that is determined to punish the most vulnerable people in our city for political gain. We are ready to defend family unity, the right to asylum, and due process in immigration court alongside our LARRN partners.  ImmDef has faced the Trump administration before, and we are more prepared than ever to do it again. Our rapid response team and removal defense attorneys stand ready to protect and keep families and communities intact. We call upon our allies in local government, business, and beyond who believe in justice to courageously stand with us and reject efforts to tear apart our region," said Laura Urias, Program Director at Immigrant Defenders Law Center (ImmDef).

Initial members of the LARRN include:  Alliance for a Better Community (ABC), Central American Resource Center (CARECEN-LA), Clergy and Laity United for Economic Justice (CLUE), Coalition for Humane Immigrant Rights (CHIRLA), Immigrant Defenders Law Center, Maintenance Cooperation Trust Fund, Nikkei Progressives, NLG-LA Immigration Committee, Proyecto Pastoral, St. John's Community Health, Strength Based Community Change (SBCC), SEIU Local 721.

The Immigrant Assistance Hotline to report ICE enforcement actions is: (888) 624-4752.
