ImmDef Reacts to President Trump’s Latest Directive Threatening Immigration Lawyers

LOS ANGELES, CA. — In response to President Trump issuing a memorandum entitled, “Preventing Abuses of the Legal System and the Federal Court” yesterday, Lindsay Toczylowski, President and CEO of Immigrant Defenders Law Center (ImmDef) issued the following statement:

“There is a reason that President Trump is afraid of the lawyers. He knows that lawyers are critical to upholding a society built on the rule of law and that our job is to hold elected officials accountable to the Constitution. President Trump has long found due process and fundamental fairness inconvenient to his plans for mass deportations and chaos at our borders.

President Trump‘s threats toward immigration lawyers are meant to scare us away from representing the most vulnerable in our society. They are meant to intimidate immigration lawyers. But he has failed. We will not be intimidated because we know that we stand with our clients and communities. We stand for the rule of law and justice for all. We stand confidently on the right side of history and we are not going anywhere.”
